Antique Meiji Era Paper Mache Japanese Red and Gold Geisha Trunk. This marvelous old Japanese paper mache geisha trunk is from circa 1868 – 1912. The handles and lock are brass and it is edged in either leather or heavy fabric The trunk measures 15 x 26 x 9”. There are a few bumps and scrapes and one side has a shallow L-shaped gouge about 2x2" with paint loss. The interior at one time was decoratively lined and there is some glue residue where the decorative paper has come off.
