These two beautifully framed steel engravings by Claude Lorraine consist of:Plate No. 8, engraved on steel by John Bromley and Plate No. 14, engraved by Thomas Lupton. Both were published September 1, 1825 by W.B. Cooke, 9 Soho Square, London. These are etchings with mezzotint and roulette work, printed in bistre. Both are in good antique condition with light soiling and moderate foxing. Plate mark: 8 7/8 x 11 3/8 inches. Sheet size: approximately 8 1/2 x 11 1/4 inches. Overall measurement with frame is 12 1/2 x 15”.Claude Gelle also known as Claude Lorraine (1600-1682) is considered one of the greatest masters of ideal-landscape painting. Born in Lorraine, he received much of his art training in Italy. He was well established by the 1630s. Around 1635-36 he began what became the 'Liber Veritatis' (or 'Book of Truth'). This amazing work is now in the British Museum in London, it contains of 195 drawings by Claude.
