This black lacquer paper mache wall shelf is decorated in Chinoiserie. It was made in France in the mid 1800s during the Napoleon III era. All of the scenes are intact with very little wear to the lacquer or the gold. One side shows the household servants attending to their duties; the other side shows a tranquil scene of two geisha's enjoying the garden and a man at his prayers. The platform is 9 3/4" x 5." The support is 9 3/4" wide x 7" long.
